Meta-Analysis
Brand version of fluconazole used to treat fungal infections. It is available in tablet and capsule form. You will need a prescription from pharmacies or medical websites to obtain it.
What is Diflucan
Diflucan is a Fluconazole derivative used to treat a wide range of fungi and yeast invading the lungs, mouth, oesophagus, bladder, genital area and bloodstream.
Research has shown fluconazole, the active ingredient of diflucan to be effective in vaginal candidiasis, systemic Candida infections, pneumonia and meningitis. Even prophylaxis with Diflucan can decrease the risk of fungal infections in patients who have recently undergone organ transplant.
How Does it Work
Diflucan belongs to the triazole class of antifungals that inhibit ergosterol production of the fungal agents to break down their cell walls and mitigate them effectively. Like other azoles that inhibit cytochrome P-450, Diflucan binds to the fungal cytochrome P-450 and, through its inhibitory effects, disrupts the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol to accelerate disruption of the fungal cell membrane with their subsequent homeostasis.
Animal studies have shown the medication to be effective for several pathogens, chiefly Aspergillus spp, Blastomyces dermatitidis, Cryptococcus neoformans and Histoplasma capsulatum, in addition to Candida and multiple strains of yeast
Strength and Dosage
Diflucan is the oral form of fluconazole, which is available in tablet and capsule forms.Tablet Diflucan comes in strengths of 50 mg, 150 mg and 200 mg
Safety and Effectivity

Information collected from over 15000 questionnaires filled by GPs has verified the effectiveness of fluconazole, especially in cases where itraconazole is unavailable or not tolerated well. Most importantly, it has been proven to be safe for pregnant women. Despite being contraindicated in pregnant women, the use of fluconazole in at least 289 women during or just before pregnancy showed its overall safety without its use giving rise to harmful effects.
