What is Acnecide Gel
Acne breakouts that present with comedones, inflammatory pustules and painful papules in the later stages can be a source of considerable discomfort on a physical and psychological level.
Acnecide gel is a prominent acne treatment option that works successfully in acne vulgaris and can be used on its own or in combination with other medications. Research has shown it to have a success rate of 90% and significantly reduce the severity and quantity of inflammatory lesions.
Working Mechanism
While there are several mechanisms through which Acnecide gel exerts its antimicrobial and antiinflammatory impacts, the undivided opinion is the bacterial cell wall damage by benzoyl peroxide nanoparticles and subsequent destruction of the bacterium. Further, the keratolytic effects of benzoyl peroxide help break the outer skin layers and remove dead skin layers to work successfully on the inflammatory regions. The use of benzoyl peroxide has been shown to remove inflammatory lesions by 52.1% and non-inflammatory lesions by 41.5%.
Combining it with antibiotics like erythromycin and clindamycin can be especially effective in P.acnes and reduce the bacterial count by 99.7% within a week of treatment. Unlike other antibiotics, regular use of acnecide gel does not give rise to antibiotic resistance.
Strength and Usage
Acnecide gel contains 5% benzoyl peroxide and is available in 30 gm and 60 gm tubes. While the compound starts working straight away, it can take two to four weeks to notice visible effects. Wash the skin area and pat it dry before using the gel. Apply it twice daily and wait for the gel to be absorbed into the dermal surface before going out for the day.
Inform your physician if you don’t notice visible improvements within the speculated time period or if you notice marked dryness or scaliness of skin after its use.
Safety and Effectivity
Double-blind studies of 5% benzoyl peroxide, the active ingredient of acnecide gel, have demonstrated its effectiveness in treating acne. It has been especially effective in bacterial strains like Cutibacterium Acne, P. acne, and Micrococcaceae, as well as being effective against surface-free fatty acids that are the precursors for inflammatory acne.
Multicenter trials have further shown that with regular use, the formulation can remove the intensity of atrophic acne scars and aid in clearer skin. Animal studies have proved that the medication use can give rise to mild erythema and phototoxicity but is otherwise safe for the skin.Â
Side effects
Among the most common side-effects of Acnecide gel are a mild stinging sensation, photooxidation and bleaching of the hair and skin. At times, it can lead to moderate complications in the form of dryness, flushing and scaly skin. Discontinue acnecide gel, if the problems persist or increase in intensity and get urgent medical attention.
