What is ED (Erectile Dysfunction), and what makes it happen?
You may also hear this condition called impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED). Men can get ED, which is when they can’t get or keep an erection that’s good enough for sexual activity or in response to sexual excitement. Many men have trouble getting or keeping an erection. It can happen to men of any age, but it happens more often as men get OLD. Half of the guys between the ages of 40 and 70 will probably have ED at some point. When you are aroused, your brain sends messages to the nerves in your penis. When the nerves get these messages, they send more blood to the penis, which makes it get bigger and more complex. If this process is interrupted in any way, penile dysfunction can happen. The reason for this break could be medical, psychological, or physical.
- Heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure are all vascular diseases that can make it hard for blood to get to the penis.
- Hormonal problems like Cushing's syndrome, hypogonadism, and an overactive or underactive thyroid can all change the body's hormone levels and cause impotence.
- Many neurological diseases, like Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis, can mess up the body's nervous system and make it hard to get an erection.
- Anatomical illnesses, like Peyronie's disease, affect the penis tissue and can make it impossible to get or keep an erection.
- Mental illnesses like sadness, stress, and worry can make it hard to get or keep an erection.
- You may not be able to get or keep an erection if you are having emotional problems. Lack of sexual understanding, a history of sexual abuse, or being in a new relationship are some examples.
- Some drugs can make it hard for men to get or keep an erection. Beta-blockers, diuretics, antibiotics, antidepressants, antihistamines, and cytotoxics are some examples of these.
Which indications do you have ED?
If you can’t get or keep an erection that’s good enough for sexual activity, you may have erectile dysfunction. When you are dealing with ED, it is essential to know what is causing it. You might be having a mental issue if you can get and keep an erection while masturbating but not when you’re with your sexual partner. On the other hand, if you can’t get or maintain an erection no matter what, it’s likely that the problem is medical or could be related to medicine. A lack of blood flow to the penis is the most common cause of erectile dysfunction. Many times, this is because the blood valves that bring blood to the penis have become small, which means that there isn’t enough blood flow to get an erection. Some things that can slow down blood flow are being overweight, having high blood pressure or cholesterol, smoking, or having diabetes. Since this is the case, erectile dysfunction can be a sign of heart disease that needs to be checked out by a doctor.
Usually, erectile dysfunction symptoms that come on slowly are more likely to be caused by something physical, like blood veins in the penis getting small. Symptoms that come on quickly, on the other hand, may be caused by mental issues. Besides injuries or diseases that affect the nerves that lead to the penis, erectile dysfunction can also be caused by chemical problems (like low testosterone), drug or alcohol abuse, drinking too much, or having problems with relationships.Â
How is erectile dysfunction detected?
You will have to talk about your sexual past with your doctor when you go to see them about erectile dysfunction. Being honest with these questions could change your opinion, so it’s essential to do so.
- What your sexuality is.
- Your present and past sexual relationship
- How much sexual drive you have, or libido
- How long you’ve had ED and how well you can get an erection
- Whether you’ve been able to gasp or shoot
- Other, more general lines of inquiry are likely to be:
- Questions about your health in general.
- Whether you drink beer or use drugs for fun.
- What medicines are you taking at the moment? Questions about your food, how much you move, and your way of life.
- A test of the blood pressure
- Sizes of height, weight, and waist
- A check of the heart rate
- A test of your blood sugar and fats
- A sonogram.
What kinds of treatments are there for impotence?
In the past few years, treatment for erectile dysfunction has gotten a lot better, and now most people who have it can continue normal sexual behavior. Medicines, changes to one’s habits, and dealing with any psychological reasons are usually all used together in treatment. Viagra and generic sildenafil are two of the four leading pills used to treat erectile dysfunction. The other two are Tadalafil (Cialis and generic Cialis), Avanafil (Spedra), and Vardenafil (Levitra and generic Vardenafil). All of these treatment choices work in the end, but there are a few small but important changes that we will discuss. Many things will affect your choice, such as your health and whether you are taking any other drugs. It also comes down to what you like
There is a new cream called Vitaros that can help with ED. It is put straight on the penis. For guys who can’t take or don’t respond to regular ED pills, this gives them another choice. It is easier to use and starts working quickly, but it is less covert. To be clear, Viagra and Sildenafil are the same medicine. On the package of Viagra, it says, “contains Sildenafil.” So pay close attention.
- 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg pills of Viagra and Sildenafil
- You should take this medicine an hour before you go to the toilet, and it should work for four to five hours.
- Food of any kind could weaken Sildenafil. To be safe, you should wait a few hours after eating to take the amount.
Generic Cialis or Tadalafil
- Cialis or Tadalafil tablets come in doses of 2.5 mg, 5 mg (once a day), 10 mg, and 20 mg.
- There is a thirty-minute window before having sex, and it works for about 36 hours.
- Since food doesn’t change it, there are no boundaries.

Levitra or Vardenafil comes in 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg pills.
This drug works for 4-5 hours after taking it, and you should take it 25 minutes to an hour before having sex.
Heavy meals or foods high in fat can affect how they work, so you should avoid eating those things before you use them.
Spedra pills come in 50 mg, 100 mg, and 200 mg strengths.
It can work in as little as 15 minutes and keep working for 4 to 6 hours.
Alprostadil
- 300mcg applicators for Vitaros (alprostadil)
- You can start working in 5 to 30 minutes.
- Unaffected by food, drink, or other medicines.
There are four kinds of ED pills: Viagra (Sildenafil), Cialis, Spedra, and Levitra. The right amount for you will depend on something other than your size or blood pressure. To begin, new users should start on the middle strength, which for Sildenafil and Viagra is 50 mg. For Levitra, the first dose is 10 mg; for Spedra, it’s 100 mg; and for Cialis, the lowest strength “when required” dose is 10 mg, which will be the first dose.
To begin with, you should try this at least four times to make sure that the amount works. Instead of trying the more potent drug, try a different one. You have to take Viagra, Sildenafil, Cialis, Spedra, and Levitra all before you get active. Their effects should last for a few hours after you take them. There is a slight difference between them in how long these effects start and how long they last.
To be clear, saying “effects last for 4-5 hours” does not mean that the erection will stay strong for that long. Most of the time, Sildenafil (Viagra), Cialis, and Levitra cause headaches and redness. It would be best if you talked to a doctor before taking it. Everyone who takes prescription drugs needs it. It can be dangerous to buy them without first talking to a doctor because you could get fake, useless, or even harmful drugs.
Other Options
- Making changes to your food (like eating less fat and Alcohol drink)
- Giving up smoking
- Taking away stress
- Giving advice
- Vacuum tools (penis pumps)

Erectile dysfunction: what you need to know
Will I become dependent on taking an ED pill each time I have sex?
Viagra and other drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction are not addictive, but it’s important to remember that they only treat the symptoms and not the cause of the problem. In the future, if the underlying problem gets worse, you may need a more potent pill. If men can’t get or keep an erection because of performance anxiety, they may feel like they can’t do what they need to do without them and become mentally dependent on them as a backup.
Is ED the same thing as impotence?
If you can’t get or keep an erection long enough for regular sexual activity, you may have erectile dysfunction (ED). People often call it “male impotence.”
Does Erectile Dysfunction happen to all men?
No, not always. But one in five guys will have it at some point in their lives, and only 10% of those who do get treatment ever do. Men often hide the problem because they think it means they are losing their manliness and masculinity. It makes them suffer needlessly.
Does getting older cause erectile dysfunction?
It can happen to anyone, but guys over 40 are more likely to have it. It is mainly because older men are more likely to get heart disease and high blood pressure, which can make it hard to get or keep an erection. Erectile dysfunction is not a natural part of getting older, in any case.
Can I avoid getting erectile dysfunction?
Even though it may not be possible to stop all causes of erectile dysfunction, living a healthy life can help a lot with stopping physical causes like diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart disease. Some of the other reasons that can be prevented are smoking, drinking too much, and abusing drugs and alcohol. Partners who can talk to each other well also help.
Does ED have anything to do with ejaculating too soon?
ED and ejaculating too soon can happen together, but they are not directly connected.
How does medicine for erectile dysfunction make you feel?
People can easily handle Viagra and other drugs in the same family that treat sexual dysfunction. If any harmful effects do happen, they are usually mild and include:
- Headaches Getting Flush.
- Stomach pain
- Having stuffy nose
See the page for each medicine for a complete list of side effects.
