What is Clairette pill
Clairette is a cyproterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol derivative used to treat acne in women with hirsutism conditions.
Hirsutism results from excess androgen production combined with oily skin excessiveness, resulting in hairiness of the face and surrounding regions. Other than physical discomfort, it can result in immense psychological distress.
Clairette pill blocks the hormones causing sebum build-up to prevent acne formation and is a favored option in acne conditions that do not respond to antibiotics.
Other than hirsutism, Clairette has been proven an effective option in other hyperandrogenic skin associated with PCOS. It works best in women of reproductive age.
Mechanism of Action
Clairette is composed of two major ingredients: Ethynylestradiol, a synthetic estrogen and estrogen receptor agonist that targets estradiol and decreases the circulating free fractions of androgens; Cyproterone acetate, a synthetic progestogen and progesterone receptor agonist that targets testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. Combined, the two components work successfully on complex acne conditions in addition to exerting contraceptive effects and preventing women from getting pregnant.
Each Clairette tablet contains 2000 mg of cyproterone acetate and 25 micrograms of ethinylestradiol that you should use for twenty-one days or as per the physician’s instructions.
Safety and Effectivity
In a study conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of ( cyproterone/ethinylestradiol), the chief ingredients of Clairette pill, twenty patients between 18 to 43 years of age with therapy-resistant acne were administered tablets containing 2 mg cyproterone acetate and 0.05 mg ethinyl estradiol for twenty-one days. The treatment was continued for six months.
The majority of the subjects responded moderately to the treatment and reported successful results on using it. The study proved that the medication can be used successfully in androgen imbalance or antibiotic-resistant acne conditions.
That said, it should be avoided in pregnant women and in non-pregnant females and be discontinued within three to four menstrual cycles of resolving of the skin problems.
